Frequently Asked Questions

What's included in the Starter Kit?

Your initial purchase is the starter kit. Think of it as your "Confident Artist Gear." It includes a light tablet, full-size art supplies, access to online art instruction and two Guide Dots project rolls.

Will I be auto-billed?

The starter kit begins a monthly subscription. You will be auto-charged each month. You can cancel at any time.

How many projects do I get each month?

Each box includes two enriching and entertaining projects, complete with step-by-step video tutorials that teach both drawing and shading/painting.

How much help will my child need?

Guide Dots is designed to be used with little to no adult support. After the initial setup, some children may need help getting the hang of the one-of-a-kind drawing process, but you will be surprised at how engaged they are once they get rolling.

Do I need multiple kits for multiple children?

How many kits you’ll want for your family depends entirely on the experience you are looking to create. The starter kit comes with plenty of supplies for two children; however, the projects cannot be done simultaneously. If your kids are good with taking turns or you are hoping to engage them at different times during the day, one starter kit will work. If you are trying to create a “classroom-like” environment where multiple children are creating side by side and, as a result, you get some mama/papa peace, then we recommend purchasing multiple starter kits.

How long do supplies last?

Guide Dots stocks its starter kit with full-size, artist-grade supplies that can last for years if handled with care.

Which level should I buy?

A professional art instructor thoughtfully designed each of our projects so they are developmentally appropriate for children within a specific age range. That said, we do recognize that every child is different. If you think your child can level up, then we suggest doing so as the Level 2 kit comes with additional supplies. If the Level 2 projects prove too challenging, please email us at wecare@guide-dots.com, and we will happily send you Level 1 projects until your child is ready to move up.

You know what really GRINDS MY GEARS…children decide by age 11 whether they are good or bad at art.
.
Read that again because it is important! 👆
.
Your child will decide by age 11 if he/she is a bad artist. There are some things that you learn that just stick with you.
.
I learned about this “critical age” in an art education class in college and ever since it has been ingrained in my brain.
.
Around age 8, children WANT to start drawing more realistically and if not shown how they begin to feel discouraged often resulting in stopping altogether.
.
So daunting as a parent to hear that right? Even worse, most schools are either eliminating art classes or reducing it to the bare minimum (maybe art history, etc.)
.
Don’t freak out yet! I got you… I help artsy children turn their love of drawing into frame-worthy artwork so they can confidently create on their own.
.
And I am ready to give you ALL my secrets in this FREE class for parents of artsy children. It is live 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝟲𝘁𝗵 (𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗦 𝗧𝗛𝗨𝗥𝗦𝗗𝗔𝗬) 𝗔𝗧 𝟴𝗽𝗺 𝗲𝘀𝘁. Have you signed up yet?

Oh and btw look how beautiful Evelyn’s (age 6) art is...this is a child who is getting a strong creative foundation BEFORE that critical age hits!

Do you suffer from GLITTER LUNGS?
.
Mamas and papas can feel the shift. They know that art is dwindling in schools but have a hard time figuring out how to help their child get their art fix. More often than not, they try to go the crafting route, when really their child has a passion for drawing.
.
𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗪𝗔𝗬 𝘁𝗼𝗼 𝗯𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺.
.
As someone who considers themselves creative, I can’t stand when someone asks me to help them with their interior design. I have NO clue about interior design.
.
Now ask me about teaching children art and that’s my JAM.
.
𝗜𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗝𝗨𝗦𝗧 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗸𝗶𝗱𝘀. There is a whole array of products you could buy (just about any kit from Michaels or any glitter product) and get that “being creative” checkbox marked off the to-do list.
.
Our aim is more important than that. We want children to 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸𝘀.

Stop listening to the 𝗪𝗥𝗢𝗡𝗚 people.
.
A couple years ago, we did something that completely changed our teaching style:
.
I 𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗣𝗣𝗘𝗗 listening to the wrong people.
.
Society has conditioned us to believe that creativity “just happens.”
.
But we call BS.
 .
Feeding our children phrases like “you’ll think of something” and “it’ll click one day” will leave them feeling disappointed over and over again.
.
Enter the, every parent knows it...sound of whiny 𝑰 𝒄𝒂𝒏𝒏𝒏𝒕!
.
Instead we need to be 𝗧𝗘𝗔𝗖𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗚 children 𝗛𝗢𝗪 to incorporate creativity.
.
This is why I am doing a 𝗙𝗥𝗘𝗘 class for parents of artsy children on how to channel your child’s love of drawing 𝗪𝗜𝗧𝗛𝗢𝗨𝗧 the dreaded 𝑰 𝒄𝒂𝒏𝒏𝒏𝒕!

I’m looking for [mamas and papas] who want to channel your child’s love for drawing so they can confidently create on their own.
.
If you’re in, DM me “CREATIVE KID” so I know you’ve got one of those art-cravin’ kiddos and we can chat to make sure this method will work for you and your child!

𝗜𝗧𝗦 𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗬 𝗔𝗡𝗡𝗢𝗬𝗜𝗡𝗚 to plan, gather and set up ALL the art supplies just to have your child spend .05 seconds scribbling before they say “I’m done!”
.
It’s like all the time and energy you spend leaves you with migraines but no quality art experience.
.
AND THEN… you are supposed to keep repeating the words “There is no right or wrong in art”?!?!?
.
In reality, you are thinking, ugh! The “right” might have been something that lasted a little longer? 🙄
.
It may be an UNPOPULAR OPINION but as an art teacher, I think THERE is a “right” way! Or at least an easier one…
.
There IS a better way to channel your child’s love of drawing. Want to know more?
.
Learn how to encourage your child’s passion without drowning in random art supplies 😉 Link is in the bio.
